| Haiti Update |
We thank you so much for your patience as we have been working to provide accurate updates on the status of our relief and recovery efforts in Haiti. Information has been difficult to come by, as communication to this remote area is difficult under normal circumstances and next to impossible following a disaster of this magnitude. After speaking with Pastor Pierre we are diligently working to address the food shortage in Boucan La Marre and the neighboring villages. Pierre informed us that in the villages which surround our church campus, he has counted approximately 700 homes that have either been severely damaged or destroyed, and while this is a major concern, the primary issue is a lack of adequate food and drinking water. The closure of the shipping port in Port au Prince and has rendered the food supply on the island both scarce and unaffordable. We have been attempting to work with several state side missionary organizations to fly food onto the island but the logistics make this type of trip both difficult and costly. Pastor Pierre has informed us that despite the difficult circumstances the spirits of the people are remarkably high. They are concerned about the lack of food and adequate shelter, but are hopeful for the future. They know that the Lord has kept them and they trust that He will continue to sustain them. Please pray with us as we work to meet the immediate needs of the people and begin to make plans for our long term relief and recovery efforts.
